Trey Grayson, a fifth-generation Kentuckian, was raised in Northern Kentucky. Trey learned early on that if you worked hard and played by the rules, you could make a lasting impact on your community - a lesson he has carried with him ever since.
A proud product of Kentucky public schools and a Governor's Scholar, Trey played basketball and tennis, participated in academic competitions, and became a leader among his peers.
Committed to Service
Trey graduated with honors from both Harvard College and the University of Kentucky. After graduate school, Trey returned to Northern Kentucky, where he dedicated his career to helping families and businesses.
After he returned to Northern Kentucky, Trey continued his commitment to serving his community and state. He was a founding member of Legacy, an organization that engaged young professionals in impacting the community. Trey served on the board of the New Hope Center, a crisis pregnancy center that encourages pro-life decisions.
He also served on the boards of the Kentucky Advocates for Higher Education, Kentucky Governor's Scholars Program, and Commonwealth Fund for Kentucky Educational Television - all with the hope of improving his community and Kentucky.
Trey took his commitment to serving the Commonwealth into politics when he ran for Secretary of State in 2003.
Getting Things Done in Frankfort
Since his election nearly four years ago, Trey is getting things done in Frankfort by working hard and playing by the rules. He is making the Secretary of State's office the best it has ever been.
Trey is leading a bipartisan effort to improve education by restoring the civic mission of Kentucky schools and engaging more Kentuckians in their government and community. Trey believes with more voices being added to the conversation, communities will solve problems, the democratic way of life will strengthen, and Kentucky will continue to prosper.
Trey is working to reform Kentucky's elections to make them more secure, more convenient, and more accessible for all Kentuckians. The foundation of democracy is free elections, and he is getting things done to keep our elections strong. Trey is leading the fight against voter fraud and corruption to protect voters from crimes that put democracy in danger.
By making his office accessible to Kentuckians through innovative online services, Trey is helping strengthen Kentucky's business environment and cutting government spending. Trey's solutions make government services accessible around the clock - not just when it's convenient for bureaucrats in Frankfort.
A Recognized Leader
Trey has been widely recognized for his innovative leadership and bold accomplishments. Trey was named as one of "Kentucky's Leaders for the New Century" by the Kentucky Press Association and Shakertown Roundtable. His colleagues across the county have recognized Trey's leadership as they have elected him as treasurer of the National Association of Secretaries of State.
Trey is proud to be recognized for his leadership with the endorsements of Kentucky Right to Life, the Kentucky Education Association, and the Jefferson County Teachers Association.
Devoted to Family
Above all of his accomplishments and experiences, Trey is most proud of his family. Trey and his wife, Nancy, live in Boone County with their daughters, Alex, 6, and Kate, 4. Trey and Nancy are active in their church, where they have been involved with the youth group and Vacation Bible School.
