As Secretary of State, Trey Grayson is reforming Kentucky's elections to make them more secure, more convenient, and more accessible. The foundation of democracy is free elections, and Trey is getting things done to make our elections the best they have ever been. Innovations like the Voter Information Center have kept Kentucky at the cutting edge of election administration.
Fighting Voter Fraud
Trey is leading the fight against voter fraud and corruption. His office regularly teams up with law enforcement agencies to provide a unified effort in protecting voters from crimes that put democracy in danger. In 2006, efforts to fight voter fraud led to prompt indictments of accused vote buyers, who were trying to undermine our elections.
Securing Elections
In response to the 2000 election disaster in Florida, Congress passed the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). Under Trey's leadership Kentucky quickly met all the requirements of this new legislation, which made sure every vote is secured and counted. For the first time ever, Kentuckians with disabilities were able to vote without assistance in 2006. Trey worked with counties across the Commonwealth to make sure voting locations were accessible to all voters. In fact, Trey's ability to get this done with efficiency and effectiveness made Kentucky a national leader for HAVA implementation.
Supporting Kentucky's Military
Trey is working to make elections more accessible to our military men and women away from Kentucky. He does not want Kentucky's heroes to fall through the cracks in the election process. Because of Trey's efforts, Kentucky now accepts the Federal Post Card Application by fax, allowing a greater number of military service personnel to register to vote and request an absentee ballot. Trey recently launched the Vote in Honor of a Veteran program, which encourages voters to cast their ballots specifically in honor of veterans.
Vision
In his second term, Trey will continue to making Kentucky's elections more secure, more convenient, and more accessible. He supports major election reforms, such as voter verified paper records, early voting for all Kentuckians, and greater accountability in campaign finance.
